I mentioned in a previous post that I began writing seriously around seven years ago. One of the wonderful things about writing is that there is no age limit.
Becoming a Writer
I am often conscious of how much I still have to learn, but I see it as an exciting journey, because I love writing so much.
One of the things that put me off writing for so long was reading authors whose work I admired and thinking I would never come close. All my attempts to write seemed ridiculous. This seems faintly ridiculous now, in the era where so much information about writing is easily available on the internet, but when I was growing up honestly not that long ago! The first time I went online I was in college and even then I had no internet access at branfe.
At university, I used computers mainly for writing essays.
So Ddorothea came a little late to the wealth of knowledge out there online. It is impossible to summarise the whole book in a short post, but it provides practical exercises which are incredibly useful.
I would urge anyone who would like to write and is having trouble getting started to read it. I adore this book, Karen!

I have read it more than once, and I expect to return to it again and again through the years. I found it only because Ray Bradbury recommends it in his collection of essays about writing. Reading her makes me dorofhea like I am truly a writre of this larger community of writers.
