Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon–the towering novel of the twentieth century’s most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in dxodus midst of enemies–the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power.

Lleon read this book when I was fourteen, and was drawn back to it after I read “Disciples of Fortune”.

This is one of the most pivro stories in my mind. It is more than that. Historical sociological, philosophical in range, it challenges the reader to confront stereotypes, to see reality with another man’s eyes and to judge fairly. Even though the book started slowly, the pace, plot and challenges intensified with the introduction of the Palestinian Jews. Still, I will say that Leon Uris deliberately did that since he was writing the book for the international audience.

The pogroms in Czarist Russia are told, the anti-Semitism that followed the Dreyfus affair in France and Western Europe, which prompted the emergence of the Zionist movement are clearly spelt out as the motivating factor for the creation of a Jewish state. Even holocaust is clearly unveiled as the final catastrophe that made the creation of a Jewish state inevitable. The book gives a good picture of the plight of the Palestinian Jews under the Ottomans and later their struggles against the British in the mandate.

It shows the complicated nature of the different peoples in the land, such as the alliances between Druses and Jews, understanding with Bedouin tribes and intra-Jewish differences. Israel’s proclamation of independence and defiant victory against the Arab states seeking to annihilate is well written in this book.

The characters that enriched the story are brought out to be so lively and natural.

Ari Ben Canaan, his uncle Akiva, the rest of the Ben Canaan family, Kitty the American nurse who fell in love with a land and people she had not wanted to know, the angelic Karen, the rebellious, Dov, David and a host of keon characters made the plot rich. However, what struck me about this novel of close to five decades is the author’s presentation of the Palestinian refugee problem. Their plight hasn’t changed.

Who is responsible lfon a world where so kris has changed? What is the solution? I think that while Israel must act in good faith for peace in the Middle East, the Arab States should accept responsibilities too for the refugee problem. The answer is the approach. How to approach a tragedy with the intention to heal.

The people’s approach to human disasters in “Exodus” and “Disciples of Fortune” is a source of inspiration. South Africa is another good example. A great primer on why the people of this region are as successful as they’ve become. It even answers some of the questions on why these marvelous people have been so mistreated! They’ve suffered the same fate as exoduss who have single-mindedly persevered throughout the ages!

If one could, one should read ”The Source” by Michener as a companion read. As one whose family could well have been so called ‘maranos’ as they made their ways into the new world, this book makes one appreciative of the people to which our culture hero, Llvro, belonged. I am more now, than before, a supporter of Israel, and the diverse people who make up, ‘This Land’.!

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. If you enjoy historical novels, this is among the best. It tells the story of the founding of Israel and the struggle of the Jews to create a Jewish state in a manner that is interesting and engaging.

I found myself hauling my kindle with me everywhere so that I could read a few pages whenever I had a minute free. The book is obviously very well researched.

I had never read a Leon Uris book before this one but expect to read many more. I have two caveats that I feel I should mention: There is no doubt that the book has a Pro-Zion bias and if this is a problem for you, then you may not enjoy the book.

This was not a problem for me.

I feel that experience of reading the book could have been increased by the inclusion of more maps to familiarize the reader with Israel of leno time period. There are a couple maps included in the book and in fairness, Mr. Uris does a pretty good job of describing the physical location of various locations. However, because I wanted to have more clarity as the exactly what was happening, I searched Google and downloaded several maps of the time.

I highly recommend it. If you have an interest in Israel, this is a great book.

I can’t wait to read Mr. Although historical fiction, Exodus exposed me to a part of history where I knew very little. Reviews of the book by critics suggest that it is not entirely historically accurate and was a propaganda piece. I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle.

One cannot deny that the Jews were treated abysmally during World War 2 and what I did not know was how badly they were treated by the Allies, especially the British, after the war. The story of how a people created a country under unimaginable odds is an inspiration. I understand, why Exodus became a bestseller when it was first released in Leon Uris obviously had an agenda when he wrote this book — the characters are real and the historic events are also incredibly real.

I have seen the movie many, many times I can never get enough of Paul Newman! But it does not complete the story as well as the book.

I feel incredibly grateful to know the all be it limited history of this part of the world. With the wars continuing to rage in that part of the world, and the incredible nation the Jewish people have built out of the desert — they deserve everything they have!

Do I recommend it??? So how DID we end up with a modern Israel after it was wiped off the map a couple of thousand years ago? So that’s how a Kibbutz works, and why!

What a bold and courageous group of people gathered in Palestine while Stalin and Hitler prepared for war. How unfortunate was the role of the UK in all of this. How amazing is the density of biblical sites throughout this small country. I am re-reading to capture even more of the richness. Formas de pagamento aceitas: Rastreie seus pedidos recentes.
